What is May Day?
The first May Day occured 140 years ago as part of an international struggle for the 8 hour work day. Workers tried to take a legislative approach, but it was ultimately the labor strikes that forced the bosses’ hand.In January, Minneapolis’s historical strike forced ICE drawback. But the fight is far from over.

May Day will be the largest strike action against Trump’s far-right authoritarian agenda so far.Strikes are the MOST powerful tools workers have. Withholding labor hurts profits and forces corporate bosses to listen.Wisconsin has a legacy of strikes. In 2011, workers organized a massive strike for union rights, gathering hundreds of thousands at the capital. In 2023, UW students maintained a weeks-long encampment against genocide. This year, hundreds of Milwaukee students participated in walkouts. Are you ready to join hundreds of Wisconsinites in the fight?
Central Wisconsin’s Demands
The working class needs to build an international anti-war movement.
* No faith in any capitalist! The working class needs its own organizations to struggle against imperialism.
* University Wisconsin students, faculty, and staff call on the UW system to divest from imperialist interests.
* The working class must learn from the heroic actions of the dockworkers striking against the Palestinian genocide - workers internationally must organize and strike to escalate the anti-imperialist war struggle.
Abolish ICE, citizenship for all, and an end to the attacks on immigrants!
* Freedom for Salah Sarsour and all others detained by ICE
* Abolish ICE to fund free college! Just half of ICE’s $170 billion a year could fund free public college with no student debt.
* Citizenship for all and an end to the attacks on immigrants.
* End the occupation of American cities - workers must organize in their communities, unions, and workplaces to protect themselves from Trump’s terror campaigns.
Tax the Rich to fund social services!
* Fund free healthcare for all, with gender affirming and reproductive care fully resourced. The attacks on predominantly poor and queer working people won't stop until we force it to stop
* Create publicly-owned, affordable housing maintained for human need, not corporate profits.
Defend the entire working class from racist, transphobic, and sexist attacks!
* The divide-and-rule tactics of the ruling class pit worker against worker. We have more in common with each other than we do with anyone in the ruling class - solidarity is necessary to fight for the betterment of the entire working class!
* Students and workers must come together in general political strikes, and build united multi-racial, multi-gender, and multi-ethnic working class organizations that bring the full weight of our class to bear on the repressive capitalist class.
For political independence of the working class
* Neither capitalist party can, will, or wants to fight for the independence of the working class. We can’t have faith in the Democratic or Republican parties. We need our own political party to escalate the fight and win any of our demands.
